Manicure and Pedicure

Line White
The term manicure is derived from the Latin for hand (Manus) and care (cura).

Manicure is quite literally the care of the hands and fingernails.

Manicures can be found to date back around 5,000 years BC with Egyptian mummies being discovered by archaeologists that had gilded nails and henna tinted fingertips.

Evidence of manicures can be found throughout history from Egypt to Babylonia, to China, France and beyond.

The nails, also known as the nail plate, protect a network of sensory nerve endings in the fingertips and toes, and are made up of many layers of dead keratinized skin cells.

Unlike hair which has different phases or cycles of growth, the nails grow continuously.

The benefits of a manicure/pedicure are that it keeps the hands, feet and nails in good condition.

Carrying out a regular manicure/pedicure will help to improve the suppleness and flexibility of the hands, feet, wrists and ankles through massage, as well as improve the condition of the skin.

Massaging warms the skin, thereby increasing the blood flow to the area, which brings vital nutrients to that particular region being treated, and also provides more effective removal of waste products.
